I have worked for a variety of employers, including in transportation planning consultancy [1989-2003 and 2010 to present], on secondment to local authority [2003-2006], and for public transport operators [1987-88 and 2006-2010].  My work has included transport strategy, transport for urban regeneration, and land development; market research and marketing; business case and investment appraisal; and scheme implementation, operational deployment and monitoring.

I established MM Transport Planning in 2011 to provide specialist public transport consultancy support to other transport consultants.

Specialist in bus service planning, procurement and contract administration

I have over forty years’ experience in the bus industry, initially with operating companies in both the nationalised and private sectors.  This has covered both day-to-day operations, administration as garage/district manager, and route and network planning, scheduling and promotion.

At Centro, the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive, my duties involved monitoring changes to commercial bus services; checking network compliance with the authority’s targets for bus service accessibility; and procuring bus services by competitive tender or direct negotiation. Later this evolved into contract administration and BSOG change management.

Since retirement I have been undertaking consultancy work on behalf of MM Transport Planning, making use of my route and network planning skills and experience.

I am an accountant with a post graduate diploma in management, extensive experience in financial and operational management, and more recently in customer service management. I have over thirty years’ experience in public transport, rising to director level; experience in both public and private sector organisations, including partnership working.

I have managed the implementation of information technology systems in relation to public transport service delivery and real-time passenger information systems. I have also developed, implemented and overseen the operation of financial and management information systems for public transport commercial management, and public-sector service activities.

I work as a freelance sub-consultant to MM Transport Planning.
